Surah “Exile, Banishment”

as rendered by Zulfiquar Ali Bhotto — 24 verses

Pays tribute to Allah whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And He is the Invincible, the Indisputable.
He is the one who drove out the ones who disbelieved from the People of the Book [Jews of Banu Al Nadir] from their homes for the first gathering. You [believers] did not think that they would go out, and they thought that they, their fortresses, would protect them from Allah. But Allah brought them forth from where they had not considered, and He cast terror into their hearts. They ruined their own houses by their hands and [also by] the hands of the believers. So take warning, O possessors of the eyes.
And if not that Allah had written upon them, the evacuation, He would have certainly punished them in the world, and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of Fire.
That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah, for sure, Allah is severe in penalty.
Whatever of a palm tree you [believers] cut down or you left that established on its trunk, so it is by permission of Allah, and that He may disgrace the transgressors.
And whatever from them [the disgraced ones, Qur'an 59:5, spoils] Allah has restored upon His Messenger; So you [O believers] did not spur upon there any horses nor camels, but Allah empowers His messengers over he whom He wills, and Allah is over every thing competent.
And whatever from the people of the towns Allah has restored upon His Messenger, so it is for Allah and for the Messenger and for those of the relatives and the orphans and the wayfarer, so that it may not solely circulate between the rich from you. And whatever the Messenger gives you, so take it; and whatever of it, he prohibits you, so you should refrain. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in the penalty.
For the poor emigrants who were driven out from their homes and [from] their properties, seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure and supporting Allah and His Messenger, [for them also a share]. Those are the truthful.
And [also for] those before them who settled the home [Madina] and the faith. They love those who emigrated to them and do not find any want in their breasts for that which they were given and prefer [them] over themselves, even though poverty was with them. And whoever is guarded from the stinginess of his soul, so those, they are the prosperous.
And [also for] those who came after them, saying, "Our Lord, forgive us in addition to our brothers who preceded us in the faith. And do not make in our hearts rancor towards those who believed. Our Lord, indeed You are full of pity, Merciful."
Have you not considered those who acted on hypocrisy, saying to their brothers who disbelieved from the People of the Book [Banu Al Nadir], "If you are driven out, we will surely go out with you, and we will not obey, concerning you, anyone - ever; and if you are fought, we will surely support you." But Allah testifies that they are liars.
If they are driven out, they will not go out with them, and if they are fought, they will not support them. And [even] if they should support them, they will surely turn their backs; then they will not be supported.
You [believers] are more frightening in their breasts than Allah. That is because they are a people who do not understand.
They will not fight you altogether except in fortified towns or from behind walls. Their hostility between themselves is severe. You [O Muhammad] think they are united, but their hearts are diverse. That is because they are a people who do not reason.
Like the example of those shortly before them. They tasted the bad consequence of their affair, and for them is a painful punishment.
Like the example of the Satan when he said to the human, "Disbelieve." But when he disbelieved, he said, "Indeed, I am free from you. Indeed, I fear Allah, Lord of the worlds."
So was the end of both of them that they are in the Fire, abiding eternally therein. And that is the recompense of the oppressors.
O you who believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look what it has forwarded for tomorrow and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is All-aware about what you are working.
And do not become like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget themselves. Those, they are the defiantly disobedient.
Not equal are companions of the Fire and companions of the Paradise. Companions of the Paradise - they are the triumphant ones.
If We had sent down this Qur'an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and rip apart from fear of Allah. And these examples We present them to the people so that they may give thought.
He is Allah, the one who - there is no god except Him, Knower of the unseen and the seen. He is the Widely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
He is Allah, the one who - there is no god except Him, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Glorified is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.
He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth is paying tribute to Him. And He is the Invincible, the Irrefutable.
