When the Event occurs;
regarding its occurrence, there can be no denial.
It will lower, and it will raise.
When the earth is shaken violently,
and the mountains crushed and crumbled,
turning into scattered dust,
and you are sorted into three groups:
there will be the companions of the bliss. What are the companions of the bliss?
And there will be the companions of the misery. What are the companions of the misery?
And the forerunners, the forerunners;
those are the ones brought near
in the Gardens of Bliss.
A multitude of the earlier people,
and a small number from the later ones.
On luxurious couches,
they will be reclining and facing one another.
Passing by them will be immortal boys
with goblets, decanters, and a cup from a flowing spring.
They will not suffer headaches from it nor get intoxicated.
And fruits of their choice,
and meat of birds that they desire,
and maidens with beautiful eyes,
the like of well-protected pearls;
a reward for what they used to do.
They never hear any idle talk therein nor sinful utterances,
but only the utterance of: "Peace, peace."
And the companions of the Right. What are the companions of the Right?
They shall be amid thornless lote-trees,
and clustered banana trees,
and extended shade,
and poured water,
and plenty of fruits,
never cut-off nor forbidden,
and raised furnishings.
We have produced them in a distinctive fashion,
and made them virgins,
devoted and of same-age,
for the companions of the Right;
a multitude of the earlier people,
and a multitude of the later ones.
And the companions of the Left. What are the companions of the Left?
In scorching winds and boiling water,
and the shade of black smoke,
neither cool nor pleasant.
Before this, they were living in luxury,
and they used to persist in the great violation.
They used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, will we be resurrected?
And our earlier forefathers?"
Say, "The earlier ones and the later ones
will be gathered to the appointment of a known Day."
Then you, O misguided deniers,
will be eating from the trees of Zaqqum,
and filling your bellies therefrom,
then, on top of it, you will drink boiling water.
You will drink like thirsty camels.
Such is their hospitality on the Day of the Religion.
We created you; if only you would believe!
Have you seen that which you ejaculate?
Is it you who create it, or are We the Creators?
We have decreed death amongst you. And We can never be outstripped
in replacing you with others like you, and producing you in that which you do not know.
You have known about the first creation. If only you would take heed!
Have you seen what you sow?
Is it you who cultivate it, or are We the Cultivators?
If We wished, We could have reduced it to debris. Then you would be left lamenting:
"We are burdened with debt!
Rather, we have been deprived!"
Have you seen the water that you drink?
Was it you who brought it down from the clouds, or was it Us who brought it down?
If We wished, We could have made it bitter. If only you would be thankful!
Have you seen the fire that you ignite?
Was it you who produced its tree, or are We the Producers?
We made it a reminder and a convenience for the travellers.
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Great.
I swear by the positions of the stars.
It is an awesome oath if you only knew.
Indeed, it is a Noble Quran
in a well-protected Book.
None can grasp it except the purified.
A revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
Are you dismissing this Hadith,
and you make it your livelihood to deny it?
Is it not that when it reaches the throat,
with you at that moment looking on,
that We are closer to it than you are, but you cannot see?
Why then, if you are not guilty,
do you wish to send it back if you are truthful?
And if he is one of those brought near,
then there shall be comfort, fragrant herbs and a Garden of Bliss.
And if he is of the companions of the Right,
then, "Peace to you," from the companions of the Right.
And if he is of the denying strayers,
then a hospitality of boiling water,
and a roasting in Hellfire.
This is the true certainty,
so glorify the name of your Lord, the Great.
