Surah “The Star”

as rendered by Zulfiquar Ali Bhotto — 62 verses

By the star when it retreated [Qur'an 52:49]
Your friend [Muhammad] did not stray, nor was he duped [O pagans],
And he does not speak out of the desire.
Left is nothing, it is to be except a revelation revealed,
Taught him the extremely powerful [angel Gabriel],
Owner of perfection. So he [angel Gabriel] settled, switched [on his true form]
While he was in the highest horizon.
Then he came near and came down.
So he was away [from Muhammad] by two bow lengths or nearer.
Then, [angle Gabriel] revealed to His [Allah's] slave [Muhammad] what [Allah] revealed [to angle Gabriel].
The heart [of Muhammad] did not belie that which it saw.
Do you then [O pagans] keep arguing him over what he saw?
And he already saw him [angel Gabriel] in another descent
near the Lote-Tree of the Utmost Boundary
nearby is the adobe of the paradise.
When what covers covered the Lote Tree.
The sight [of the Prophet] did not deviate, nor exceeded the limits.
He [the Prophet] already saw some of the great signs of his Lord.
So have you [O pagans] considered the Lat and the Uzza?
And Manat, the third - the other one?
Is the male for you and for Him the female?
That, then, is an unjust division.
Left is nothing, they are to be except names you have named your assumptions, desires - you and your forefathers - about which Allah has sent down no authority. Left is nothing they are to follow, except assumptions and what the selfs desire. But certainly there has already come to them from their Lord guidance.
Or was for the human whatever he wishes?
But to Allah belongs the Last and the First.
And so many of an angel in the heavens whose intercession has nothing to avail except after, if Allah permits [that to have] for whomever He wills and pleases.
Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels the female naming,
And for them no knowledge, nothing is left to follow except assumptions thereof. But indeed, assumptions do not avail from the truth, anything.
So turn away [O Muhammad] from whoever turns his back on Our Reminder and does not want except the worldly life.
That is their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord knows best about who strays from His way, and He knows best about who is guided.
And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth that He may recompense those who do evil with what they have worked and recompense those who do good with the best [reward]
Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, except the slight mistakes. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He knew best about you when He originated you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not ascribe purity to yourselves; He is most knowing of who fears Him.
Have you [O Muhammad] then seen the one who turned away
And gave a little and [then] held back?
Is with him rest knowledge of the unseen, so he sees?
Or was he not informed about what was in the books of Moses
And [in the book of] Abraham [Qur'an 87:19] who fulfilled [conveying the message]:
That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another;
And that there was not for the human except what he strove for;
And that his effort will be considered;
[And] then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense;
And that to your Lord is the final End;
And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep;
And that it is He who causes death and gives life;
And that He created the pair, the male and female,
From a sperm drop, when ejaculated;
And that upon Him is the later production;
And that it is He who enriches and suffices;
And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius;
And that He destroyed the first [people] of Aad,
And Thamud; so He did not spare [any of them];
And the people of Noah before. Indeed, they were more oppressors and more tyrannical.
And He flipped the towns [of Sodom and Gomorrah] upside down.
And [thereby] covered the towns what covered.
So which of the favours of your Lord do you doubt [O you whoever turned away, Qur'an 53:33]?
This warner [Prophet Muhammad] from the warners is the first.
The approaching [to the earth in the night journey] has approached.
There is not for such exposure [Qur'an 53:11, Qur'an 53:13] other than Allah any discloser.
So are you of this reporting [Qur'an 53:11, Qur'an 53:13, O pagans] wondering?
And [either] you laugh or do not weep,
Or are you carelessly amusing [Qur'an 53:11, Qur'an 53:13]?
So [considering all above, you and your followers] should prostrate to Allah and worship.
