Surah “Man”

as rendered by A.L. Bilal Muhammad et al (2018) — 31 verses

Has there ever been a period of time when the human being was not something to consider
Indeed We created the human being from a zygote. In order to try them, We then gave him hearing and sight
We showed him the way, but whether they are grateful or ungrateful rests on their will
For the rejecters we have prepared chains and a blazing fire
As for the righteous, they will drink from a cup mixed with kafur
A fountain where the devotees of God drink, making it flow in abundance
They honor their promise, and they are conscious of a day whose harm flies far and wide
And they feed, for the love of God, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive
Saying, “We feed you for the sake of God alone. No reward do we desire from you, nor thanks
“Indeed we fear a day of distressful punishment.
But God will deliver them from the harm of that day, and will shed over them a light of beauty and joy
And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a garden and garments of silk
Reclining in the garden on raised thrones, they will find there, neither a sun nor extreme cold
And the shade of the garden will come low over them, and bunches of fruit there will hang low
And among them will be passed round bowls of silver and goblets of crystal
Crystal and silver. They will determine its amount
And they will be given to drink there, from a cup mixed with zanjabil
A fountain there called Salsabil
And around them will be youth of perpetual innocence. If you see them, you would think they were scattered pearls
And when you look, it is there you will see bliss and a realm magnificent
Upon them will be green garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give to them a natural drink
“Indeed this is a reward for you, and your endeavor is accepted and recognized.
It is We Who have sent down the Quran to you in stages
Therefore, be patient with constancy to the command of your Lord, and do not listen to those who are unethical or the disbeliever among them
And glorify the name or your Lord morning and evening
And part of the night, prostrate yourself to Him, and praise Him throughout the night
As for these, they love the fleeting life, and put away behind them a trying day
It is We who created them, and We have made their forms strong, but when We will, We can substitute the like of them with a change
This is advice, whosoever wills, let him take a path to his Lord
But you cannot, except as God wills, and God is full of Knowledge and Wisdom
He will admit to His mercy whom He wills, but the wrongdoers, for them has He prepared a terrible penalty
