Surah “Luqman, Lukman”

as rendered by Zulfiquar Ali Bhotto — 34 verses

Alif [Common sense], Lam [Self referencing], Meem [Natural sciences].
These [Qur'an 31:1] are verses of the Book, the establisher [of interpretation],
Guidance and mercy for the good doers,
Who establish the prayers and give the zakah, and they in the Hereafter believe firmly.
Those are upon guidance from their Lord, and they are the ones who will be successful.
And of the people whoever buys the amusement of narration [gossip as inspired book] to stray [others] from the pathway of Allah without knowledge and [whoever] accepts that in negligence, those for all of them will be a humiliating punishment [Qur'an 6:112].
And when our verses are recited upon him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So inform him [O Muhammad] about a painful punishment.
Indeed, those who believed and worked the righteous deeds - for them are the Gardens of Bliss
Abiding therein eternally; Truth is the promise of Allah. And He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
He created the heavens without pillars, you can see that and He threw into the earth firm mountains, lest it shifts with you, and dispersed therein from every creature. And We sent down water from the heaven [outer space] and cause to germinate therein [plants] of every noble pair.
This is the creation of Allah. So show Me, if anything one has created, those other than Him? No but is there! The oppressors [Qur'an 31:6] are in obvious astray.
And certainly We already brought Luq'man the wisdom that: "Be thankful, grateful to Allah. And whoever is thanking is thanking only for himself. And whoever is disbelieving; for sure, Allah is Rich, Praiseworthy".
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luq'man said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate with Allah. Indeed, the association is a great oppression."
And We enjoined upon the human [to be thankful] with his parents. His mother carried him, weakness upon weakness, and his weaning in two years. You [O human] have to be thankful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.
But if they exert against you to make you associate with Me or whatever not befitting to your knowledge, thus do not conform them [in their exertion]. But accompany them in the world as recognized and follow the way of who turns back to Me. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you all about what you were working.
[Luq'man said], "O my son, indeed if there existed the weight of a mustard seed, so be it in a rock or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, Allah will bring it forth. Indeed, Allah is Subtle, Acquainted.
O my son, establish the prayers, enjoin with the recognized, forbid of the wrong, and be patient against what befalls you. Indeed, that is from the matter's resoluteness.
And do not turn your cheek with supremacy toward the people nor walk proudly in the earth. Indeed, Allah does not love everyone self-admiring, overproud.
And be moderated in your walking and of your voice be lower; indeed, the harshest voices are the voices of donkeys."
Do you [O Mankind] not see that Allah subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth? And He lavished upon you with His bounties, outward and inward? And of the people is he who argues concerning Allah without knowledge nor guidance nor an enlightening Book [from Him].
And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah revealed," they said, "No but is there. We are following what we found our parents upon that." Even if Satan was calling them to the torment of the Blaze?
And whoever submits his face to Allah while he is a good doer then he has certainly grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allah is the outcome of [all] matters.
And whoever has disbelieved, let not his disbelief grieve you [O Muhammad]. To Us is their return, and We will inform them about what they worked on. Indeed, Allah is Knowing about what is in the breasts.
We let them enjoy themselves for a little; then We will compel them to a harsh punishment.
And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth?" they would surely say, " Allah." Say, "Praise be to Allah". No but is there. Most of them are not knowing that,
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. Indeed, Allah is the Rich, the Praiseworthy.
And if whatever is in the earth of the tree were pens and the ocean were added as ink, following thereof seven [more] oceans, the words of Allah would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.
Your creation and your resurrection [O Mankind] would not be except as through [procreation and pro-resurrection systems] of a single soul. Indeed, Allah is Hearing, Seeing.
Do you not see that Allah causes the night to enter in the day and causes the day to enter in the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running for a stated term [Qur'an 75:9], and that Allah, with whatever you are working, is Acquainted?
That is because Allah is the Truth, and surely what they call upon other than Him is the falsehood, and surely Allah is the Most High, the Grand.
Do you [O Man] not consider whether ships sail through the sea with the grace of Allah, to see yourselves of His signs? Indeed in that are signs for every patient, grateful one.
And when waves overlay them like shadows, they call Allah, sincere to Him in the religion. So when He delivers them to the land then from them [few are] moderate while [most] are not. And not except every ungrateful, infidel denies Our signs.
O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when a father can repay on his son [side], nothing; and a baby can repay on his father [side], nothing. Indeed, Truth is the promise of Allah, so let not the worldly life delude you and let not the Deceiver deceive you about Allah.
Indeed, it is Allah, with Him is the knowledge of the Hour. And He sends down the rain, and He knows what is in the wombs. And a soul does not know what it will earn tomorrow, and a soul does not know in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, Well-Acquainted.
